Brake Caliper Slider Pin Grease - Which is Best ?

Which type of grease is the best for brake caliper slider pins ? (also called slide pins or guide pins). My cube doesn’t fit my Mazda calipers, I’ve struggled with the pliers. Last time I just “sent it” and used a c clamp for pressure and rotated the body with channel locks. Sub optimal but got it done. Should have gone and borrowed the tool, but just sharing as it works in a pinch.

    I use single electrode spark plugs myself. I always index my plugs where the gap is open @ the intake valve it makes a difference, time consuming a V-8 takes 64 tries to get it right but any old school racers will contest it works.

    Hello! Great tips, especially for someone with no prior experience with these. I have a slight issue I need help with. I have a new bracket, pins, and boots. I lubed the pin, spun in the walls, put the boot on, then inserted the pin. For some reason, one of the pins slides back out freely on its own but the other doesn’t bounce back so easily. It’s almost like the boot itself isn’t springing itself back. I even took off the pin and pushed together with my fingers and it barely opens itself freely. Any help with this?

    I can agree on the overgreasing part. Cannot agree on what you point out as the correct way to grease. I do believe that shows lack of engineering knowledge, which is understandable from a mere mechanic. What happens in the real life is that if you grease with so little grease, you will quickly get excessive wear, and the brake calipers will start knocking really annoyingly on uneven roads.

    Many years ago I owned a Mk2 VW Golf GTi. Shortly after buying it I took it in for a service at the local VW garage. When I got it back there was a very noticeable drop in the performance of the car so I called them up and asked them what kind of plugs it had in it and what they had replaced them with. They told me it had triple electrode plugs which they had replaced with single electrode plugs. I went straight to the nearest accessory shop and bought some new triple electrode plugs and replaced the singles, and lo and behold, the performance was right back where it was before the service.

    😅These types of plugs are , or were known as ' 'Aircraft' plugs. The multiple electrodes don't help performance. The reason why they are used for aircraft is so that should 1 electrode burn out there is another one that can still fire. You can't get out of the ✈️ airplane and change your plugs whenever you're flying @ 20,000 ft ASL. (Above Sea Level )

    Im getting a whine sound with my revs.. whether in gear or not. I noticed the belt tension was tighter than it should be. Should i losen the alternator bolts and adjust the tension that way? I dont have the tools to for the tensioner bolts but i can get the alternator if i need too. Just scared to mess it up

    • @screwsnutsandbolts
      @screwsnutsandbolts 3 дня назад

      If it is from the alternator, and the belt was over-tensioned, then the bearing could already be failing. Unless you can set the correct tension yourself, I would take it to a garage to be checked and/or set to the correct tension

    Everyone in the comments acting like antiseize on mounting bolts is a war crime. I live in the rust belt and would rather not have to heat and beat and fight every bolt each year. I slather them up with antiseize and guess what... They never back off and always come off at the same torque I put them on at. I even put a dab on wheel studs. Antiseize prevents corrosion and marring/galling, that's pretty much it. As long as you torque it down good and to spec it isn't going to back out on you. Once you bust the head off of a rusted on bracket bolt or spend and hour torching and hammering to break through the corrosion you will understand.
